One of the reasons I fell in love with organization may seem a bit odd to some people. But here it is – For those of you who are Christian, you may remember the commandment God gave to Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. For some reason that has really stuck with me through the years. They were commanded to”dress it, and to keep it” They were given the Garden but not without responsibility. I kind of look at our homes as our own little garden of Eden. Our own little piece of Heaven on Earth. A space that we can call our own, but a place that we are given responsibility over. Like Adam and Eve, they would not be given this expectation without the tools to take care of it, and if the tools were not readily available, they were expected to be resourceful.
With so much at our fingertips in this day and age, I believe that many of us have forgotten not only the responsibility we have to take care of our space, but also how to be resourceful. If we do not have the money to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond or The Container Store and get the coolest new organization tool, then we feel that we cannot be orderly. This is entirely not true.
There are so many ways that we can take care of our homes and keep them orderly. We do not need to have the most perfect built in shelves or closets or places to store things.
Over the years I have seen some remarkable ways to keep the items in our homes and offices orderly. Obviously one of the best place to find suggestions is Pinterest. With so many wonderful ideas right at our finger tips, we can turn any space into a productive and useful and organized space, even if it is a home office under the stairs. With that being said however, again, we must remember one thing that we must be careful of when browsing Pinterest.
It is the whole idea that “OUR” space is not as beautiful or as awesome as someone else’s.
Remember, the pictures on Pinterest are just pictures. They do not always show the rest of the house or the bookkeeping or the children’s behaviors. We are seeing one small idea or one small area.
However, with OUR area we can and should be responsible to dress and keep it. To maintain it and to love it.
When we take care of our space – our homes, our apartment, our offices or car, we show love and gratitude for what we have and we will feel peace. We will be full-filling our responsibilities to the best of our abilities.
